In-N-Out Library
Rethinking the library and transforming it from an introverted room that is merely thought for a passive consumption of knowledge, into a more extroverted space, which can be actively shared by a community, is the main aim of this project. The space that used to operate as an archive within the library must be redefined and utilised as a tool to bring the community together. The morphology of a closed indoor library should also be replaced by creating a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaced. The Focus won’t longer be directed toward the indoor area, but the surrounding spaces and the circulation flow in-between. The new building should range from a merely enclosed and private space into a set of multipal spaces, in which the indoor and outdoor are merged together. The highlight of the program are the three knowledge hubs, which intersect together into a communal creation space. Therefore the new library should transform into a more communal area, in which the users are also given the freedom to choose and arrange the space as they desire. It’s a shared library where visitors are able to actively learn and communicate their knowledge as well.
