현대 사회에서 미디어가 가지는 영향력이 상당한 것에 비해 미디어에 대한 인식이 다소 부정적인 경향이 있다고 생각한다. 하지만 원하던 원하지 않던 미디어의 지분은 갈수록 커져갈 것이며, 도서관은 새로운 정보 저장 및 전달 매체로서의 미디어를 받아들여야 할 것이다. Despite the influence media have on modern society, it does not seem to have enough recognition. Like it or not, the part that media is taking will grow overtime, and the library would have to embrace the media as a new form of medium of information.

정보 전달 매체로서의 미디어에는 명백한 장단점이 존재한다. - 장점 중 하나로는 몰입이 쉬우며 아날로그 매체에 비해 접근성이 좋아 대중성을 띈다는 것을 들 수 있다. - 한편 주된 단점으로는 미디어가 사회적 파편화를 일으키는 주된 요소라는 점을 들 수 있다. 이번 프로젝트에서 나는 사람들이 미디어를 기반으로 하는 정보를 즐기되 그러한 사회적 파편화를 겪지 않아도 되는 공간을 만들고자 한다. Digital media as a medium of information have a clear pros and cons. - One of the pros being it easier to immerse and more accesible compared to analog making it popular among public. - One of the biggest defects, on the other hand, will be the fact that it's one of the main elements that causes social fragmentation. In this project, I intend to create a space where people can enjoy information based on media without having to go through such fragmentation.

그러한 특성을 갖기 위해선 공간이 심리적으로 접근하기가 쉬워야 하는 동시에 안에서는 고립된 느낌을 주어야 했다. 그렇게 함으로써 안에 있는 사람들 사이의 상호작용이 늘어나며, 외부와는 충분히 단절되어 정보 습득에 대한 몰입에 도움이 되는 효과를 의도했다. 사람들이 부담없이 접근할 수 있으며, 막상 들어왔을 땐 위요감과 편안함을 느낄 수 있도록, 밖에서는 오픈되어 보이지만 안에서 주위를 살폈을 때엔 다소 닫혀 있어 보이는 공간을 원했다. To achieve that goal, the space needed to be emotionally easy to access, while giving the isolated feelings on the inside. So that people inside can be more bonded to each other, and isolated enough to help them immerse on the information. I wanted a space where it looks open form the outside, but rather closed when you look around from the inside. So people can be willing to approach, and when they step inside they feel surrounded and cozy.

이를 위해 땅을 들어올리는 듯한 형상을 활용하였고, 이를 기반으로 3가지 기본 단위 형태를 만들었다. - 단위 형태_A - 단위 형태_B - 단위 형태_C To make such space, I used the form of peeling, and I made three variations of basic forms based on that. - Variation_A - Variation_B - Variation_C

B-C 조합(B-C combined) 이러한 단면 두 개를 교차하여 전체적인 구성을 만들었다.(아래 PPT참조) Overall shape was formed base on two of these crossing each other.(as shown in the Powerpoint below)

B1 (1:600_A4) 지하층이다. 아래 모든 도면이 그러하겠지만 축적은 A4 기준 1:600이며 흑색 해치는 기존에 있던 구조물, 적색은 새로 추가된 구조물을 표시한 것이다. 진북방향은 도북방향 기준 반시계 방향으로 16.7°벗어나있다. 오른쪽 주출입구 부분의 벽은 회전문이며 당일의 행사에 따라 열거나 닫을 수 있다. 또한 지하로의 접근이기 때문에 자연스럽게 생기는 단차를 활용하여 공간별 프로그램을 구분해주었다. 가운데 로비는 앞서 살펴본 두 B-C 조합의 지하부 교차점에 해당하며 주변의 프로그램을 매개하는 역할을 한다. Basement level. As do all the drawings below, the scale is 1:600 printed on A4, and the black hatches represent the existing part, red indicates the added part. The direction of true north is 16.7°counter-clockwise from the grid north. The wall for the main enterance part on the right is a revolving door that can be opened or closed due to the scheduled event. Also I made advantage of the level change that is made from base level approach, and used it to divide the programs. Lobby on the middle is the base level intersection of the two B-C combinations as shown above. And connects all the programs around.

1F (1:600_A4) 1층 평면이다. 대부분의 나무는 사이트에 현존하는 것들을 보존할 수 있도록 하였다(회색조로 그려짐). 지하만큼은 아니지만 비교적 외부와 단절된 공간이다. 이는 중정부 역시 마찬가지이며 이는 출입 동선이 시작하는 부분과 대조를 이룬다. 중정부와 출입구 부분은 위에서 살펴본 '단위 형태_A'에 의해 나눠지는 공간이다. 단위 형태_A에 의해 형성되는 벽 바로 앞에 현존하는 나무가 배치되도록 하여 해당 형태에 의해 생기는 위요감이 더욱 강조될 수 있도록 하였다. 장애인 동선의 연결성을 위해 출입구와 건물 본체가 포장도로로 연결되어있어야 했다. 이를 너무 부자연스럽지 않도록 연결하기 위해 포장도로가 일정 거리를 따라 그라데이션으로 사라지도록 디자인하였다. First floor plan. Most of the trees were kept preserved from the existing(Drawn in gray tone). Not as much as the basement, but still rather isolated from the outside. Same goes for the courtyard area and it contrasts from the enterances. Two of them are divided by the 'Variation_A' that was shown above. To highlight the surroundedness that Variation_A provides, I placed it to be right in front of the row of existing trees. For the sake of Barrier Free circulation, the enterance and the building itselves had to be connected by the hard-paved road. To make it work without looking too unnatural, I designed the paving to fade out along some distance.

2F (1:600_A4) 2층 평면이다. 비교적 오픈된 공간이지만 여전히 public보다는 private이 강조되는 공간이다. 기존 마구간_A였던 건물과 외부를 연결하는 경사로(단위 형태_C)는 Barrier Free를 만족한다. 램프를 오르면 전방이 뚫려있지만 동시에 메쉬 타공판으로 둘러쌓인 공간에 들어서게 된다. 이는 오픈되면서도 위요감이 느껴지기도 하는 회색지대이다. Second floor plan. Relativly opened space, but still more private than public. The slope(Variation_C) that connects the outside to the building that used to be Stable_A meets the ADA. Once you climb up the ramp, the space before you is gaping hole but surrounde by perforated mesh at the same time. It is a opened while being surrounded gray-area.

Sections/Elevation (1:600_A4) 단면과 입면이다. 두 번째 단면은 앞서 살펴본 B-C 조합에 해당하는 단면이다. 기존 마구간_A였던 건물과 외부를 연결하는 경사로의 슬라브가 램프에 의해 아래쪽에 머물러야 했기에 이를 지탱하기 위해 역보의 형식을 차용했다. Sections and elevation. Second section being the B-C combination we saw before. The slab for the slope that connects the outside to the building that used to be Stable_A had to stay below due to the ramps above, so I used reversed beam to support it.
