During this task, students are asked to develop their own personal interpretation of the library and to define what activities will take place in it, how, and what kinds of relationships they establish among each other. They are also required to take a position in regard to the existing building/site.
The goal of the Midterm Review is to translate students’ architectural concepts into a full drawing set at 1/200 scale. The purpose of this drawing set is to define the overall design strategies of the project, by clarifying:
• Main organizational principle of the project: What are the rules of the game, or the framework that holds the project together?
• Project Elements: What are the main parts of your project (old and new)? How do you name each type of Element? What guides the deployment of each one of these parts?
• Relationship old – new: How does your understanding of the existing building inform the program and the way people may use it?
