Kahn, Third World Congress, Association of Architects and Engineers in Israel, December 1973Pavilion/ Freer Architecture/ Minimum Space/ 1:1 Scale 파빌리온은 특정한 프로그램/ 용도가 없고 제한적인 시간 동안 존재한다는 측면에서 기존 건축물에 비해 여러 가지 측면에서 자유로움을 갖는 경우가 많다. 더구나 실제 생활을 고려한 일반적인 건물에 필요한 단열성이나 밀폐성으로부터 자유롭기 때문에 구조적으로도 얇고 가벼운 구조적인 구조를 만들 수 있는 기회이기도 하다. 파빌리온은 건축물에 비해 현저히 작은 공간을 차지하는 경우가 많아 건축물의 최소 단위인 방과 비교될 수 있다. 파빌리온은 방과 마찬가지로 형태(Form), 구조(Structure), 공간의 성격(Spatial Character), 그리고 나아가 인간의 신체와의 반응(Human Interaction)이라는 건축적 요소를 모두 갖추고 있는 건축물이기도 하다. 파빌리온을 설계하고 지어보는 것은 실제 건물을 짓는 것과 마찬가지로 건축의 다양한 경험을 제공하는 기회가 될 것이다. 그렇다면 이와 같은 파빌리온은 어떠한 방향으로 설계해야 하고 특히 다양한 공간의 성격을 제공할 수 있는 파빌리온을 어떻게 만들 수 있을지 탐구하는 것이 필요하다.
